So, you’re thinking to get your first tattoo? How cool! Also maybe you’re thinking, can an illustration be a tattoo? Since I’m an illustrator, I’ve designed all my tattoos and definitely, I can design yours! But first, let me give you some advices of how to choose your first tattoo and we’ll get to that so keep reading!

1. A tattoo is for the rest of your life.

Yes, I know this could be obvious but not everyone is conscious about it. Even though, nowadays exist some removal treatments, they can be quite expensive and some are painful because they use a laser to remove it and some don’t even remove it at all and can leave an awful scar. So, what’s the point of getting a tattoo if you will remove it after. If you’re not COMPLETELY SURE about getting your first tattoo, wait a little more till you get the clarity of having one.

2. Your age matters. Oh yeah, mister!

When we’re young, everything is so easy for us. We believe that we can do everything and that nothing is gonna stop us. Well, beside some other things, getting your tattoo at an early age couldn’t be the best idea and you’ll regret it some day. I’m not saying that every young person will regret it but my believe is that when we are young, we have some other priorities that need our attention first and getting a tattoo might not be one.

3. Looking for the right tattoo artist.

Recommendations are key! I met my tattoo artist thanks to a co-worker. I saw her tattoo, I loved it, she gave me his contact, I got my appointment and here we are… Fourteen tattoos later. He’s a crack!

4. Looking for the right design. An illustrator can be one option!

Here’s what I was talking about at the beginning. We need to start with what do you like? Maybe animals, typography, symbols, something more realistic, outline, color, etc. and for that, definitely I can help! I always recommend to photoshop it on your body so you can be clear about the size and the place. You can DM me via Instagram and we can work on your illustrated tattoo. Can’t wait!!

In case you want to see some examples; here are a few:

5. The meaning of your tattoo.

Besides, “did it hurt?” The meaning will be one of the first questions people is going to ask. I can tell you that unless it is meaningful to you, doesn’t need to have a deep meaning or an essay explanation. You can get a circle or a dot. Or maybe some stripes just because you like how it looks and not because of the meaning. The main point here is that you are happy with it.

I remember when I got my first tattoo… Now I have fourteen and I love them all! Guess I’ll get a couple more but shhhh, don’t tell anyone.

I’ll be more than happy of helping you out with your new tattoo!

Send me the word and let’s work on it!
